Feminist stories

“The woman’s blink rate tells him she’s nervous: almost once per second, four times the normal count. Jack knows a touch of nerves can help soften up a client, especially in the clinic’s private waiting cubicles, but if he overdoes it she may fear opening her wallet. And that must be avoided at all costs.”

“Feminism's association with activism is one reason people shy away from it, says Deborah L. Rhode in this excerpt from "What Women Want." A history of negative media coverage has also fueled this aversion. … Public opinion polls over the last two decades underscore the problem. Taken together, they reveal a striking ambivalence.”

Feminist plays

The Devil’s Gateway by Sarah Daniels

“Second floor flat in Bethnal Green, and the world is looming large over the lives of Betty and her neighbours. If it's not Social Services, then it's Social Security; if not's unemployment, then it's the bomb. Betty and her old friend Enid, who is trapped in an abusive marriage, are mirrored across town by Enid's daughter Linda, and Linda's lover Fiona, while Betty's daughter Carol tries and fails to duck in and around the whims of her bullying husband.
And all the while on Greenham Common, women are taking action. Against the bomb; and against the patriarchal system that would drop it. We're used, Daniels writes, to seeing men go off to war but we should get used to women going off for peace.
The Devil's Gateway was first performed at the Royal Court Theatre, Upstairs, London, in 1983.”

Cloud Nine by Caryl Churchill

“Churchill’s wickedly comic and compassionate study of sexual politics glimpses the relationships of a family and their lovers, with an interval of twenty-five years of their lives, and around a hundred years of history.
Highlighting the parallels of sexual and colonial oppression, the first act is set in a British colony in Africa in Victorian times. Clive is the traditional colonial patriarch, proud of his perfectly domesticated wife and black servant (‘played by a man’ and ‘played by a white’ respectively), and striving conscientiously to ensure his son and daughter play with gender appropriate toys. But furtive adultery and secret homosexuality threaten to subvert the moral order of the household.
The second act finds some of the same characters living in 1979, twenty-five years older and played by different actors, finding new liberations in bisexuality and polyamory, but finding new anxieties about gender and fulfilment. The intricacies of these relationships and the play’s doubling create a complex and moving account of the multiplicity of individual sexualities.

Cloud Nine was first performed in 1979 at the Dartington College of Arts, before touring and transferring to London.”

Testimonies of feminism

She reaches out to the girls that want to be like her and explains that models in magazines are modified by technology which wrongly provides a fake image that they idolize.

Courtney Martin had been raised by two feminists and activists. She had grew up in the era of technological advances which meant that approaches became more related to media and electronic devices. Surely she explains that no matter the differences in our lifestyles being an activist is doable and applauded.

They are criticizing the patriarchal image which needs to be ruptured to its core.

Colbie Caillat sings about women’s empowerment in being simple and natural regardless of what society dictates. It starts with comments on how women do these modifications to satisfy what others expect from them outside their natural state. She asks women to not “try so hard” and if they like themselves when they’re alone, implicitly reminding them that it is what matters.

Christina Aguilera raps about social injustice between men and women’s standards. She mentions how it is unfair for women to not have an opinion on the double standards of the views of both men and women. Aguilera dedicates this song to women around the world who are going through those struggles and urging them to not be held down.

Feminism

In Post Modern times, feminism is known to attack the male population of society intending to provide more power to the female population. The reality of the topic is that it pursues equality for both genders. Nowadays, the idea of women being able to wear whichever type of clothing they prefer is a right to express themselves regardless of what society's ideals on gender roles are. Without a feminist movement, women and men would be deprived of a fair establishment of equal relationships in diverse social and economic sectors.

Suffrage was an important point in women’s lives due to the liberty it provided to the both literate and illiterate. This movement gained force when they noticed it was for the better of society’s development and enrichment. Mothers, spouses, and their entire families became exposed to a closer stage of equality between men and women. In our days, this movement for equal rights still stands strong. We must teach society not only the convenience of actual equity but of the right that is being withheld from women.
